Who we are

Veterinarian, Dr. Christopher Smith, started Dog Verve to help fur parents celebrate the bond they have with their dogs. Dr. Smith has been a practicing veterinarian since 1992 and has been a dedicated advocate for the precious bond we share.

I have been working with animals in the field of veterinary medicine since I was 15 years old. That was 35 years ago. I’ve seen a lot over that time and a lot has changed. One thing has always remained. That is the way that dogs often instinctively give without expecting anything in return, show love even when they are shown hate and go on living with no self pity despite what injuries, illnesses or bad circumstance they may be enduring. I have personally witnessed this many times over the years.

My first experience with the power of a dog was with my own Mother, Patricia Smith. When I was 17 years old, my Mom became very ill. After several months in the hospital, she was able to come home but was confined to a wheelchair. Our Bichon Frise, Dusty, hadn’t seen my Mom in over 3 months and when they were reunited, Dusty went crazy with excitement. She remembered her just as if nothing ever happened and it was almost like she was saying, “Where the heck have you been!”.

Over the course of the next year, my mom continually worked to heal and walk again. I believe that the constant companionship and affection shown by Dusty was a major driving force in this recovery. Family, supportive friends and caring medical professional were also very important but dogs are awesome because they never have to leave your side during times of need. They stay right there and seem to know when you need them.

I welcome you to dogverve.com. A celebration of the compassion, energy, enthusiasm and vigor of dogs.
